Rustenburg – Access to water is a basic human right. One North West man’s dream of providing the Lethabile community with improved access to water will be filled today , Thursday 2 August 2012.08.03 Kagiso Manthe, a 27 year old satellite TV installer, spent much of his childhood visiting his aunt in Lethabile where he witnessed her walking far distances and carrying heavy loads of water for her residence.
Manthe entered his ‘beeg dream’ in Hansa’s Next Beeg Dreamer competition as he felt that the access to water in his community was inadequate. “Long distance fetching of water and having to travel back home on uneven roads using wheelbarrows and buckets of water falling all over the place will be a thing of the past,” said Manthe.
Hansa will provide between 50 and 100 specially manufactured drums to be distributed to members of the community.
“Hansa will reduce the number of people without sufficient access to water by distributing rolling water barrels, which allows people to carry almost five times the amount of water, without having to carry 20kg on their heads,” said South African Breweries Marketing Manager, Kelebogile Mashigo.
Hansa Pilsener’s Next Beeg Dreamer campaign will reward winners in four different categories – Music, Hansa, Community, and Home – with enough money to realise their respective dreams from the Hansa Dream Fund.

Isn’t that wonderful? Water in these communities is such a problem. I would opt for rainwater harvesting systems, fill water tanks with the harvested rainwater and then distribute that rainwater between households.
