Madibeng air quality deteriorating

“The Madibeng municipality district is one of the priority areas that requires specific air quality management actions to rectify and avoid the deterioration of the air quality,” the department of environmental affairs said in a statement last week.

The other areas are the Waterberg, the municipalities of Thabazimbi, Modimolle, Mogalakwena, Bela-Bela, Mookgopong, and Lephalale in Limpopo, and Moses Kotane and Rustenburg in North West.

A priority area in terms of the Air Quality Act is an area in which ambient air quality standards are being exceeded and may cause a significant impact on air quality in the area.

The department said this might be a result of emissions from specific sources that expose individuals to adverse health risks.

The Waterberg area also had a potential to cause a trans-boundary air quality impact between South Africa and Botswana.

Rainwater Harvesting

* Rainwater harvesting is the collection, storage and distribution of rainwater and the perfect storage facility for rainwater is a water tank. * Rainwater can essentially be used anywhere you use tap water. * The idea of using drinking water to flush toilets and water lawns is wasteful and irresponsible, especially in light of the population growth and water shortages across the country.
