Melting ice in the Swiss Alps

According to Prof. Martin Funk, Head of the Section of Glaciology at the Laboratory of Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich, the reason why glaciers are retreating is because of the melt rate that depends on the relative magnitude of all of the energy in the system. If temperature increases, the melt rate increases.

He added: “For me, the one thing that makes clear that the climate is changing is the glaciers, especially in the Alps. If you look at what is causing this change, and you look at the projections for the near future … this is one of the best indications to show to people that climate change is serious.”

Rainwater Harvesting

* Rainwater harvesting is the collection, storage and distribution of rainwater and the perfect storage facility for rainwater is a water tank. * Rainwater can essentially be used anywhere you use tap water. * The idea of using drinking water to flush toilets and water lawns is wasteful and irresponsible, especially in light of the population growth and water shortages across the country.
